The Three Pillars of a Healthy Climate
Reduction
The transition to zero emissions is progressing too slowly and needs to speed up. If we continue emitting carbon into the atmosphere, the planet will keep heating up. During the transition to Net Zero more CO2 will be pumped into the atmosphere, adding to global warming and the amount of carbon we will need remove.
Removal
We've already released too much carbon into the atmosphere, and it will continue warming the planet until we remove it. We need to accelerate the development and deployment of carbon capture (from the air) and sequestration technology.
Repair
Reducing carbon emissions and implementing carbon capture programs will likely take decades. During this time, the carbon already in the atmosphere will keep heating our planet, causing damage that needs to be repaired. Marine Cloud Brightening will be required to reduce the Earth's surface temperature.
Action
All three pillars must be pursued urgently and at the same time.
