Marine Cloud Brightening
Marine Cloud Brightening (MCB) is the method of increasing the reflectivity of clouds over the ocean to reflect sunlight back into space. This process involves:
• Spraying a fine mist of sea-water over the ocean surface
• The mist evaporates, leaving salt particles to rise into the atmosphere
• The salt attracts water droplets which gather around it, acting as “cloud condensation nuclei”
• These tiny particles will form cloud droplets, which, due to their size, are incredibly bright

Our Mission
Our mission at Ocean Cooling Technology (OCT) is to progress the development of MCB technologies in order to help mitigate the detrimental effects of climate change on the communities and locations that need it most.
These include areas such as the Great Barrier Reef, which face critical risk of bleaching due to the warming ocean temperatures, and the exponentially decreasing Arctic Ice Circle.
The root cause of our warming planet is due to carbon emissions – something we need to reduce, but we believe progress is not being made fast enough, and we must act fast to protect our Earth. Read more about our Three Pillar Argument.
